WANDERERS IN DREAMS
He called her in his dreams. She came to him. And they were happy. She called him in her dreams. And it seemed to her that he heard her voice.
She often thought about him. He thought about her less often. He was always busy with things that inevitably distracted him from thinking about her.
But she came to him in his dreams again and again. It was a pity that with the dawn he always forgot about it. But for some reason she always remembered his image from her dreams.
Once she asked him if he dreamed about her. He answered that he did not. And he was not lying. He simply didn't know.
"Well, admit it. Do you think about me every day?" he asked her in a dream.
"What made you think so?" she tried to object.
"Because it is true. And you are just a stubborn child."
"I am not a child. But you are such an egoist. Is it possible to stand your character? You, you..."
But he, without waiting for her to finish, put one arm around her waist and pressed her tightly to himself. And then kissed her tenderly on the lips.
Waking up, she still remembered his touch and the smell of his body.
Nika always woke up happy. But a few more minutes passed - and she, almost like him, stopped thinking about it, as if nothing had happened between them, either in reality or in a dream. She had breakfast, got herself in order and hurried about business. She, too, always had something to occupy her head with.
"I love you," she once confessed to Yegor in a dream. In ordinary reality, she could not do that.
"Do you love me at least a little?" she did not calm down, as if she knew that this was a dream and was afraid that it would soon end.
"I love you," Yegor finally whispered.
How happy Nika was. How long she had been waiting for these words. So much, so selflessly. However, as is typical for girls.
But everything comes to an end. They both woke up. And both with smiles on their faces. They did not even suspect that their dreams were shared between the two of them.
"You know, I often dream of you."
"Really?"
"Yes. And when will you dream of me?"
Nika understood how stupid it was. But she felt a little offended that Yegor did not dream of her.
"Okay. It's time for me to go."
And with these words he began to get ready. Nika looked at him and realized that she was already beginning to miss him.
"Well, that's it. Have a good day," he said a phrase that for some reason really irritated Nika. Perhaps because it is always said before parting.
"You too," she answered, barely restraining herself from wrapping her arms around his neck and hanging on as long as she had the strength to hold on.
Having slammed the door behind Yegor, Nika suddenly caught herself thinking that what had happened to her was nothing other than falling in love.
A little time passed - night fell again. And again dreams took hold of Yegor and Nika.
"I don't need anyone but you. You are the only one for me."
"Really?"
"Yes. Really. Why would I need anyone else when I have you? You are the best."
"You are suddenly so affectionate and frank."
"What surprises you? Can't I be like that with you? Forgive me for telling you one thing and doing another. I was wrong. I just got used to living the way I want. And then you... Do you understand?"
Nika looked closely into Yegor's eyes. At that moment, she was sure that they were overflowing with love.
"And I want you very much. Very, very much. You are my girl. You are very beautiful. Kind. Tender. And I am too proud. Forgive me for often hurting you."
"I think I am dreaming. Or is this all really happening?"
"It depends on what you consider real, dreams or reality."
"I want to lie with you in my arms for a long, long time. Stay with me as long as you can."
This was the last thing Nika remembered when she woke up. And suddenly she wanted to cry. So much so that she could cry out all her unfulfilled hopes and stupid expectations.
She was tired of seeing the life she dreamed of only in her dreams. And then waking up and realizing that it was all not real.
The next day, as often happens in the summer, the sun was shining again. It was quite hot in the room. Yegor turned on the air conditioner. And his dream, with enviable speed, again dissipated into nothingness.
Yegor woke up - and with him, his image melted away in Nika's dreams. New people, landscapes and something else came to replace him.
She continued to sleep peacefully, not suspecting that reality was closely connected with their shared dreams.
